Five Secrets to Getting
A Man To Open Up
Men must feel comfortable and accepted before they will be
open.
What does this mean?
- Let
him know it’s OK to be himself. Don’t try to
change him - - it makes him feel inadequate. This is not
a good feeling for a man. Men fear rejection, criticism
and not measuring up. He will shut down if he feels he can’t
please you. Men fear what they say will be held against
them so you cannot hold what they say against him or use
it as a means of intimidation.
- Try
to stay rational. Men tell me they hate the emotional upheavals.
They don't know how to handle emotional upsets and will
retreat.
- Show
interest in what he is saying. If he feels you are interested,
he will say more. Men like to talk if they have an interested
listener.
- Men
want to feel appreciated. Let him know that you appreciate
how hard he works and the effort he puts out. Let him know
how much you believe in him and that you see how hard he
is trying.
- Give
men time to think things over. Don't make threats or demand
immediate answers. They need some time to think things through
and get in touch with how they feel and what they want to
do. Ask them when they will be able to respond. This gives
them time and lets them know that you will expect a response
within the agreed upon time.
